| Xiao Qiu was found in a cardboard box on the steps of the Hepu Social Welfare Institute on her day of birth, 18th September 2001. At 2 months of age she was transferred to the Mother's Love Orphanage in Nanning. At about 6 months she went to live with a Foster Family in their home. Each month the foster mother brought her to the orphanage for a medical check, including height measurement and weighing. At this time a photo was also taken for record purposes.
